Michigan State survived Iowa Thursday evening in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament. Lunardi had the Spartans as part of his "Last Four In" going into the game, and Seth Davis tweeted afterward that we should stop talking about MSU being on the bubble now. After beating Iowa. By five. Sparty is in, I don't think there's any question, and when you look at the teams that could possibly pass them, I think it would almost be unfair if they didn't get in, barring any significant upsets in conference tournaments. Bottom line is this tournament cannot expand to 96, and when picking upsets this year, stay away from the higher seeds from major conferences, because the bubble teams are gawd awful. (LSJ)
Michigan plays against Illinois today in the Big Ten Tournament. I'm assuming the Wolverines are safe, even if they lose today, because they have a sweep of Michigan State to go along with the aforementioned slop that's behind them. But, you never know. (MGoBlog)
The Big East Tournament started strong Thursday, but ended with a whimper as Notre Dame and Louisville rolled over Cincinnati and Marquette, respectively. The Irish may have played their way into a one seed. Most of the major bracketologists have them there already, and I supposed when you look at the resume -- neutral court win against Wisconsin, road wins at Pitt and UConn, 26-5 while playing in the deepest league in the country -- it makes sense. I still think that if Duke -- and maybe even North Carolina -- wins the ACC Tournament it deserves a 1, and that means either ND or Pitt will have to get bumped from that line. Winning the Big East Tournament, however, would lock the Irish in at a 1. (South Bend Tribune)
I hate to keep talking about the Heat, but they keep being a big story in sports. Last night, they beat the Lakers, so Kobe Bryant responded by holding a personal workout on their floor. Linking to this more because of the quality of the writing than the actual story. (Yahoo)
Sorry to bury the biggest news of the day, but I don't liking leading with sadness. Japan was hit with a huge-normous earthquake and a resulting tsunami. The quake registered an 8.9 on the Richter scale, which is fucking enormous. It was offshore, which caused the tsunamis, but it was big enough to cause about 50 aftershocks, a lot of which were higher than 6.0 themselves. That's a lot of really big earthquakes. The waves are currently hitting all of the Pacific, and will hit the west coast of the U.S. sometime this morning. (Huffington Post)
Of course, the Bleacher Report used this time to make a slideshow of natural disasters in sports. Bleacher Report is no longer just a content farm, it's a retard farm as well. (Bleacher Report)
