Brand Keys released its lists of most loyal (and least loyal) sports fans in the four major sports, and Detroit shows up on one of them, leading the way in the NHL with the Red Wings. I can buy that, as the Wings have so good for the past couple of decades that there's been no reason for us to stop being loyal. But this list in general seems to just be the best teams in each leagues. Any NFL list that doesn't have the Packers and Steelers as Nos. 1 and 2 is out of its mind. It's especially out of its mind when it has bandwagon central -- New England -- at No. 1. And if we're talking true loyalty, what about Lions fans? Sure, over the past couple of years attendance had gone down, but my god, the fact that it took a recession to really shock us into not watching that team live is amazing. (Brand Keys)
The Tigers named Will Rhymes their starting second baseman Tuesday. He hit over .300 last year, so it's real tough to argue with the move, especially considering the Tigers other options. The one major downside I see, however, is the scrapiness label that is been affixed to Rhymes already. If he does semi-well, expect a David Eckstein-ian level of praise for things that probably don't deserve much praise. (Freep)
Wes Leonard, the Fennville star basketball player who collapsed and died on the court following his team's final regular season game, was named to First-Team All-State in Class C. Let's make one thing clear, this was not a sympathy vote. Leonard averaged 20 points, nine boards and three assists a game, while playing for an undefeated team -- he would have made it if he were still alive. But this does kind of put into perspective how impressive Fennville's run to a district title really was. Not only were its players mourning the loss of a friend, but they were also playing without their best player. Amazing. (DetNews)
Dez Bryant pulls his pants up for nobody! And sometimes that gets him kicked out of malls. Young black man getting harassed for being young and black in an affluent mall in Texas? Get out of town. (SB Nation)
Charlie Sheen wrote some kind of Twitter Haiku to go along with this picture. Yes, I'm as confused as you are. (@charliesheen)
Elizabeth Taylor died today. She was 79, and I always looked at her as kind of a caricature throughout my lifetime, but she was actually super hot back in the day. (E!)
Rick Snyder has a lower approval rating than Scott Walker. Not only do only 33% of voters say they approve of him (to the 50% who say they disapprove), but voter's remorse has really set in. He beat Virg Bernero by 18 points in November. Now a race between them would be a statistical dead heat. He's been in office for less than three months. (Public Policy Polling)
Meanwhile, Tom Walsh thinks Detroit has hit bottom, and that a comeback could be on its way. God, I hope so, but I don't know if that's realistic right now. (Freep)
Today's amazingness is more than a year old, but just as amazing today:
