So, a funny thing happened in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals last night. Ever heard of puck luck? Yeah, the Canucks had that in spades, getting a puck to bounce off a stanchion out to a wide-open Kevin Bieksa who knuckle-pucked one home among the confusion. Only the Canucks seemed to know what had happened at first, and Dave Strader's call of the goal, was, um, uninspired. Think Stanley Cup Finals from last year when Patrick Kane was the only person in Philadelphia who knew he'd just potted the Cup-winning goal. This was the second awful break for the Sharks in the game, as they were screwed on an icing call that set up the game-tying goal. This, of course, doesn't bother me at all. The Canucks move on, and I don't see either of the teams in the East stopping them from winning their first Cup. (Kurten Blog)
Thanks to some amazing possessions in the final minute by the Bulls (isolations against LeBron James for fall-away jumpers is, um, not so awesome), the Heat were able to survive regulation and win in overtime. Miami is one win away from the finals. Expect that win to come in Game 6, and then we get Heat/Mavs in the finals, and we can be happy with that matchup, because it will be pretty damn awesome. Alex Avila is a man. So is Miguel Cabrera. And the Tigers are still the streakiest team in the league. Just be happy that, for now, the team is streaking in the right direction (three straight wins), and is above .500. The bad streaking has also not been bad enough to let he Indians get ridiculously far away. (DetNews)
Dana Holgorsen was "escorted" out of a casino in West Virginia. The incident with the offensive coordinator and head coach in waiting at West Virginia is now under investigation. Details are sparse, but here's to hoping it involved a shit-ton of booze and Holgorsen screaming at the top of his lungs at a roulette spinner that he wanted to put it all on red. He also, hopefully, had his dick out. (ESPN)
The death toll isn't anywhere near Joplin, but Oklahoma was ravaged by massive tornadoes Tuesday night. I was watching one of the local channels down there as it was going on, and the main weather man was doing one hell of a job keeping people informed of the track the tornadoes were on the ground or were about to be. I'm assuming he saved a lot of lives. (NewsOK)
