Speaking of championship games, they apparently played one last night, although it more resembled a community rec fifth and sixth grade game where they give teams a point for hitting the rim (even if they had done that, I don't know if the game would have hit the over). Connecticut was clearly the better team last night, if for no other reason than Butler was that bad, and won its third national title under Jim Calhoun. There was nothing spectacular about this game, other than the fact Butler shot 18.8% from the field, which is .2% lower than Michael Floyd's blood alcohol content. Part of it was good defense by UConn, sure, but a lot of it was awful shooting, even on layups. It was ugly and awful, and I like watching good defense. I don't, however, like watching shitty basketball, and that's what we saw. I do believe, however, that UConn was a good enough team in March that it could have beaten anyone put in front of it -- seriously, the experts told us all season there was no dominant team this year, and this tournament proved that -- but I think we had a little bit of the NHL Eastern Conference playoffs thing going on here, where the upsets make the whole thing exciting, but end up detracting from the final. Having said that, there's no need to tweak this tournament, they just need to tweak teams like Kansas and Ohio State, who are perennially coming up short of expectations come tournament time. Dan Wetzel wrote a real nice piece about Butler. Of course he did. (Yahoo!)
Since it's never too early to look ahead, here's my top 5 for next year: 5. Texas; 4. Arizona (yes, I realize Williams is gone, but what a class they have coming in); 3. Ohio State; 2. Kentucky; 1. North Carolina.
I'm not one to panic early in a season, so I'm not going freak out right now about the state of the Tigers' starting pitching. But the first trip through the rotation wasn't exactly awesome. In fact, it was probably the opposite of awesome, and now the Tigers are 1-3. And apparently the Free Press asked Dave Birkett to write a brief about it. (Freep)
We've been able to ignore our good friend Vince Ellis this season because we were taking time off, and the Pistons were awful. But he has a real gem today. Ellis argues that Rodney Stuckey will have "value" on the free agent market. The article really doesn't say much other than, "here are all the instance of why Stuckey is probably turning into a malcontent, but John Kuester sucks, too, so ignore them. Then again, none of this matters because the Pistons are going to keep him anyway." So, yeah. By the way, the only reason Stuckey will have any value is because NBA GMs are historically idiotic. He's either a shooting guard that can't shoot or a point guard that can't pass. Neither is a very valuable asset. Oh, and he's a malcontent on top of that. (Freep)
"Detroit 187" has finally done something realistic, as it has vacated a building in the Detroit area. (DetNews)

The Lonely Island has a new video. It's bizarre, but it's the Lonely Island, so I'm listening to it and posting it here:
